The EU contributed € 19 million to the nuclear safety Account of EBRD

The European Union has made a contribution in the amount of EUR19 million on Account of nuclear safety.

As reported the press service of the European Bank for reconstruction and development (manages account), means the nuclear safety Account are used for the construction of a Repository for spent nuclear fuel No. 2 (ISF-2, is located on the site of the Chernobyl NPP).

In the meeting of the Assembly of contributors of the Chernobyl Shelter Fund, which is held in London, involved the Minister of ecology and natural resources of Ukraine Ostap Semerak.

“Today in London involved in another traditionally important meeting of the Assembly of contributors of the Chernobyl Shelter Fund. For the first time in many years, the members of the Assembly of contributors of the Chernobyl Shelter Fund said the strengthening of the position of the Ukrainian side in the issues of environmental safety and the desire as soon as possible efficiently and successfully to complete this, without exaggeration, is important for the entire European continent project,” he wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday evening.

The members of the Board of donors noted the implementation of all financial and institutional arrangements for the implementation of the project “Shelter” in accordance with the approved plan and schedule.

“It is important that today approved funding the development of the technical part of the project of dismantling of unstable structures of the Shelter object (the sarcophagus), which is from November 2016 under a new safe Confinement (Arch),” said Semerak.

The Assembly also agreed to allocate funds for the purchase of the necessary equipment for dismantling of unstable structures over the 4th unit of Chernobyl NPP.

“Once again thank all the participants of the Assembly of donors Account for the huge help in overcoming consequences of the Chernobyl disaster, understanding and solidarity, which are almost 30-years show 28 partner countries. I hope that our final Assembly of donors of nuclear safety Account, as we planned, will take place at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in December this year. Ukraine once again confirm that it is a reliable partner in the implementation of security measures of a global level”, concluded the Minister of ecology and natural resources of Ukraine.

As reported, the ISF-2 is intended for reception, preparation and storage of spent fuel assemblies and additional absorbers accumulated at the Chernobyl NPP, within the next 100 years. Commissioning of the facility scheduled for 2018.
