The US expressed support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine and called for the preservation and even strengthening of the sanctions regime against Russia until full implementation of the Minsk agreements. This was stated by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at a press briefing at the White house after his meetings in Congress.
“Just finished a meeting with speaker of the house Paul Ryan, a leader of the “Democrats” in Congress, Ms. Pelosi, congressmen, where we got another confirmation of the bilateral support of the Congress and Senate of Ukraine. Primarily the result of the meeting is that I raised the issue of the Congress resolution on recognizing the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people. You remember, we started with the delegation of their stay in the United States at the monument to the genocide and has received the full support of the congressmen who agreed to expedite consideration of the designated legislation,” – said Poroshenko.
Summing up his two-day visit to Washington, the President of Ukraine stressed that during these 36 hours of meetings were held with the key players, the main members of the presidential Administration – the new administration of President trump.
“Was very long, very informative conversation with gospodinom the President, where said two extremely important things. This is the US support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of our state, support of Ukraine in countering Russian aggression, specific plans, which provide for the preservation and even strengthening of the sanctions regime against Russia until full compliance and implementation of the Minsk agreements. I think this is extremely important and it is no coincidence that during the stay of the Ukrainian delegation, the United States imposed new sanctions”, – said Poroshenko.
