President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting with delegation of the National democratic Institute of the USA led by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of this organization, former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. About it reports a press-service of Administration of the President.
“The head of state thanked the U.S. side for its consistent support of Ukraine in countering Russian aggression and the implementation of democratic reforms in our country. The President informed the representatives of NDI on further aggravation of the situation in the Donbass because of the provocative actions of Russia and controlled by the militants. In this regard, was the need to maintain sanctions against Russia until full compliance with the Minsk agreements and restoring the territorial integrity of Ukraine including Crimea”, – stated in the message.
As noted, Madeleine Albright stressed the importance of granting Ukraine defensive weapons to ensure the legitimate rights of sovereign States to self-defence in accordance with article 51 of the UN Charter.
Earlier the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting with foreign Ministers of Lithuania and Sweden by Mr Linas Linkevičius and Ms. Margot Wallström.
