Ukraine will appeal against the decision of Interpol to withdraw from the search for Yanukovych – GPU

The head of the Department of special investigations of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Serhiy Gorbatyuk said that the decision of Interpol on removal from the wanted list ex-the President Victor Yanukovych will be appealed.

This was reported in the press service of the GPU.

Mr. Yan emphasized that the withdrawal from the international search Yanukovych was not due to shortcomings of the investigation or the violations by the investigating authorities of Ukraine.

He also stressed that the decision of Interpol will be appealed.

The head of the Department added that to date the conclusions of the Interpol processed, the results of which a decision on further action and, in particular, possible changes to existing legislation.

As earlier reported, Mr. Yan confirmed that the Commission for control over files Interpol session 27 February – 3 March 2017, the decision about deleting files of Interpol regarding the red card investigation, that is, the withdrawal from the international search of the suspect Yanukovych, his son Alexander and senior officials of the former regime.

According to him, such a decision is motivated by existing weaknesses of the Ukrainian legislation concerning election of a measure of restraint in respect of wanted persons and the status of the suspect.
