The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has held a phone conversation in the Normandy format with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, President of France Francois Hollande and President of Russia Vladimir Putin. It is reported by the presidential Administration.
“The leaders of the “Normandy format” reaffirmed their commitment to implement the Minsk agreements in part, in particular, concerning both security and political aspects of the settlement. They welcomed the agreement on the resumption of the ceasefire on the occasion of Easter, as was agreed at the meeting of the Trilateral contact group on 29 March and stressed the importance of strict compliance with the specified mode”, – stated in the message.
As noted, the leaders stressed the need to intensify efforts for the release and exchange of detainees by the principle “all for all”. “They condemned the threats to observers of the Special monitoring mission of the OSCE”, – stated in the message.
It is also noted that the sides expressed gratitude to President of France Francois Hollande for his efforts in the “Normandy format” and expressed hope that this format will continue after the presidential elections in France.
Earlier, the representative of Ukraine in the humanitarian sub-group of the Trilateral contact group, the first Vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Gerashchenko said that the key topics of telephone conversations of leaders of countries participating in the “Normandy format” was the security issues and the release of the hostages.
