The number of foreign tourists who visited Ukraine in 2016, increased by 5.6% compared to 2015 year – on-year to 13.6 million people, according to the report of the Ministry of economic development and trade (MEDT) according to the State border service of Ukraine.
According to the data, among foreign tourists who visited Ukraine in 2016, was dominated by nationals of Moldova amounted to 32.9% or 4,474 million.
At the same time, the citizens of Belarus took a share of 13.4% (1,828 million people), Russians – 11,3% (1,543 million people), Hungarians and 9.3% (1,271 million persons), poles and 8.8% (1,195 million).
The number of Russian tourists who visited Ukraine in 2016, increased by 16.8%, or $ 221,643 thousand people, compared to 2015 year.
Most number of tourists in Ukraine in 2016 has grown from Tajikistan – three times in comparison with the year 2015 to 165,158 thousand people At the same time, the number of tourists from Uzbekistan has increased in 1,9 times – up to 136,021 thousand persons, from Lithuania – by 48% to 52,273 thousand people from Turkey – 44.7%, to 206,706 thousand people, from Israel – by 45.1%, to 217,16 thousand.
As noted in the document, 95.3 per cent of tourists who visited Ukraine in 2016, motivation trips have “personal goals”, and 2% transit, 1.3% of “tourism” and 1.1% “other purpose,” 0,2% – “official purposes”.
According to the report, in 2015 the number of foreign tourists in Ukraine decreased by 1.3% (0.2 million people) compared to 2014 year – on-year to 12.9 million people.
