Gross external debt of Ukraine by 1 January 2017, made up 113,483 billion. Is 5.2 billion (4.4 per cent) lower than in early 2016, the press service of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).
In the fourth quarter of 2016, the gross external debt decreased by 2,532 billion, or 2.2%.
In particular:
- debt of the General government sector in the fourth quarter of 2016 decreased by 2.8%, but during the whole of 2016 rose 1.1 percent to 36,339 billion UAH:
- the Central Bank debt declined by 3.7% in the fourth quarter of 2016 and 6.9% for the whole year to 6,242 billion.
- the debt of other Depository corporations fell by 5.7% in the fourth quarter of 2016 and 30.1% for the whole year, to 8,966 billion.
- debt of other sectors decreased by 1.2% in the fourth quarter of last year and 2.5 percent for the full year, to 53,322 billion.
Direct investment (mazvimavi debt) fell by 0.9% in the fourth quarter of 2016, however, rose 0.6% in January-December 2016 – up to 8,614 billion.
Gross external debt as of a certain date represents the total amount owed on all existing obligations which must be paid by debtors and which are liabilities of residents of Ukraine to non-residents.
