The EU sees the Navalny verdict an attempt to silence independent policy

The verdict of the Leninsky court in Kirov on charges of embezzlement against a Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny in Russia trying to silence another independent political voices, said the official representative of the European foreign service (EVS).

“Last year the European court of human rights ruled that Mr. Navalny was deprived of the right to a fair trial during his persecution in 2013 on the same charges,” – said in a statement on Wednesday in Brussels communiqué.

“This decision, which, in fact, eliminate Mr. Navalny from the political arena, to further restrict political pluralism in Russia and raised serious questions about the fairness of democratic processes in Russia”, – said the representative of the EMU.

The Leninsky court of Kirov on Wednesday sentenced Navalny to 5 years in prison conditionally and to the penalty in 500 thousand roubles, having recognized guilty in the theft case of “Kirovles”.
