Ukrainians are afraid that politics trump will lead to escalation of the war

While the White house is happy that the telephone conversations of Donald trump with Vladimir Putin this weekend have become “an important start to better relations between the two countries”, Russia’s neighbor Ukraine’s worried about what it means for them, a change of American presidents.

On the Maidan in Kiev, with whom talked correspondent for VG, said that fear of the deteriorating situation of the country that was ravaged by war.

“Every politician who agrees with Putin is bad news, because Putin wants to destroy our country, and the Ukrainians will not even be able to say anything. The situation in Ukraine is very difficult, and now the future looks even more grim,” says Michael, 53, told VG.

In 2014, the United States was an important support for Ukraine in the war against Pro-Russian separatists who want to Donbass in the East of the country was Russian. The war claimed the lives of more than 10 thousand people, and in recent days the conflict has become more bloody.

On Thursday evening it became clear that the United States condemns the “aggressive actions” of Russia in Ukraine. They stated that sanctions will continue as long as Crimea remains in Russian hands.

On Thursday, it was reported that for two days it killed 12 people. While President Obama fully supports Ukraine in this conflict, trump advocated a more friendly policy towards Russia.

The cause of concern

On independence Inessa, 22, is scared of what can cause the talks of the two powerful men.

“If the United States will support Russia, I think Putin could decide to start here a full-scale war. I see that happening in my country, I see people die, and I feel that we will never know what we can bring tomorrow,” the serious young woman the correspondent of VG.

After the appearance of news that the US representative to the UN, Nikki Haley (Nikki Haley) condemned what she called the “aggressive actions” of Russia in Ukraine”, VG talks with Tour Bocquillon (Tor Bukkvoll), researcher of the Military research Institute (FFI). He says that to judge what impact this will have on relations between trump and Putin will be later.

“Russia is very cautious in their hopes that trump will sympathize with her, she never speaks of the victory as something self-evident. Now it turns out that this skepticism on the part of Moscow was justified. But the Ukrainians may be right that good relations between trump and Putin will mean they will have less international support”, — says the researcher of a Military research Institute in an interview with VG.

“It is possible to assume that the tramp would weaken the sanctions against Russia. This will be a serious challenge for Ukraine, because the Russian support of the rebels can continue almost indefinitely,” he said Thursday before the reports that the US condemn Russia.

“However, I suppose trump wants to get something in return from Putin. Let’s see whether they want Putin to give it,” says Bukvoll the correspondent of VG.

Trump hinted that it may recognize the annexation of Crimea if it leads to better relations between the US and Russia. During a telephone conversation, which lasted the weekend for over an hour, Putin and trump discussed the situation in Ukraine and agreed to determine the date of their meeting. But the question of U.S. sanctions against Russia was not raised.

Researcher of the Military research Institute Buckwell believes that a full-scale invasion is unlikely, but he does not deny any other form of Russian intervention, for example, provoke social upheavals in the Ukrainian society. Ukraine now faced many challenges.

“In addition, the Ukrainians have many reasons to be wary of future elections in Germany and France as well as trump in the US. Candidates for the French presidency, Le Pen (Le Pen) and Fillon (Fillon) are supporters of a more friendly policy towards Russia in comparison with that which is held in Europe at the present time”, — says the researcher of a Military research Institute.
