Senior research fellow, Institute for defence studies Svein Melby (Svein Melby) believes that trump imposed a ban on the admission of refugees constitute a waiver of the longstanding traditions of the United States as a country of refugees.
“This is not something for which the US acted as a nation and a state. The United States was a refuge for those who fled from the war, religious oppression or economic crisis. That was the idea, on which rested the state. As said by Woodrow Wilson: “In principle, the Americans can be any” — said a senior researcher in an interview with Aftenposten.
In recent days, media around the world is full of stories about people stopped at airports or forced to cancel trip to USA. Among those who were refused, a Norwegian of Iranian descent Navid rezvani (Navid Rezvani) living in Norway since 2000, which denied entry to USA due to his dual citizenship.
In a presidential decree trump directly about Islam it does not say. But all of those seven countries which are subject to the limitations of the country is mainly Muslim.
“It seems that this prohibition is directed against Muslims. It harms the reputation of the United States. But it’s not like trump is worried,” says Melby.
Of the country, for USA is not important
Trump administration prohibits entry into the country to citizens of Iran, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq, Yemen, Syria and Libya. However, in the list of such countries also suffering from terror, like Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan.
“Can result in an argument that steps have been taken to reduce the terrorist threat, but I still think that this is done in order to meet the needs of the voters trump and show that he’s doing something,” — says Melby.
“Most of those who carried out the September 11 attacks were from Saudi Arabia. But the US has a close relationship with Saudi Arabia is because of oil, the economy and security policy. Egypt is also an ally of the United States. Pakistan plays an important role in its region and in the fight against terror,” says Melby.
September 11 is not stopped would
According to the conservative think tank, Cato Institute in the US, no one was killed in the terrorist attacks committed by people from seven countries, which trump was denied entry into the country.
Just from 1975 to 2015 for planning terrorist attacks on American soil was convicted 17 people from Iran, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq and Yemen.
None of the 19 hijackers who committed the September 11 attacks of 2001, the presidential decree would not stop.
And the shooting in San Bernardino, which was the reason for trump’s proposal to deny entry to Muslims, it would be impossible to prevent. Criminals were born in Chicago and in Pakistan, which decree has not touched.
