The number of victims of avalanches that had covered the hotel in Italy, has grown to 16 people

The number of victims of an avalanche that covered the hotel Rigopiano mountain in the Abruzzo region in Italy has risen to 16 people, reports on Tuesday Agency associated Press.

Earlier it was reported that rescuers managed to find nine people who survived under the rubble. The last survivor was rescued on Saturday morning. Another 13 people still unaccounted for.

Press-Secretary of the Italian rescue services Alberto Maiolo reported that rescuers with excavators were able to penetrate into the Central part of the hotel, where they found the bodies of the latest victims.

“Following the logic of hope (to find survivors – ed.) fade away, but we continue the search and try to do it as soon as possible”, – he said.

Tragedy in the heart of the massif of Gran Sasso d’italia occurred on the evening of January 18. At that moment in hotel Rigopiano were about 35 people.

Cause an avalanche were four earthquakes of magnitude 5 on Wednesday and the tremors that continued during subsequent nights.

On Tuesday have passed the first funeral of victims in an avalanche.
