Marine investments on the horizon: Canada will help Ukraine to prepare for an important audit

The Ministry of infrastructure of Ukraine and the international technical assistance project EDGE, funded by the government of Canada, July 12, signed a joint plan of action to support reforms in the sector of Maritime security.

Reportedly, after the implementation of the planned activities in the Ukrainian Maritime industry closer to international standards, which will contribute to the achievement of the best results in the passage of the country audit of the International Maritime organization (IMO) in the spring of 2018.

“This audit is a good reason for that, we have completely changed the marine industry and have made it a competitive, open and efficient. We have updated the Administration of seaports of Ukraine, but it is extremely important to investors, which enter the Ukrainian market, feel comfortable, transparent, understood that their money brings benefits to their companies and the industry as a whole “, – said the Minister of infrastructure Vladimir Omelian.

According to the Director of project EDGE Tanya Sanford Ammar, has already attracted the expert of the Ministry of transport of Canada, which outlined critical steps to prepare for the audit next year.

“To make it happen, we also provide a team of six Ukrainian specialists, who will work in tandem with the Ministry of infrastructure of Ukraine”, – she said.

For the first time Ukraine will host the IMO audit in February-March 2018. The subject of the audit is to verify the implementation by Ukraine of international obligations in the sector of Maritime security. The action plan, in particular, provides assistance in the implementation of the country of the relevant conventions, strengthen the state management in the field of Maritime security.

In 2018 Ukraine will substantially rise in one of the most popular international rankings, which prepares the world Bank’s Doing Business, – which characterizes the state of the investment climate and ease of doing business in the country.
