With the decision of the Stockholm arbitration Russia has lost its levers of influence on Ukraine. This was during the Second Polish-Ukrainian gas conference in Warsaw today, said the Deputy Minister of energy and coal industry of Ukraine Igor Prokopiv.
“There are two lawsuits – and the purchase of gas and for gas transit. Buying gas is a preliminary decision, the final will only be on for at least 3-4 months,” – said the Deputy Minister.
Ukraine and filed a lawsuit, and the decision of the Stockholm arbitration in the first place talking about moving away from the politicization of the gas business, said Prokopiv.
“If we talk about the Stockholm trial is first and foremost a departure from the political dependence of Ukraine from Russia and the loss of Russian political influence on Ukraine”, – said the Deputy Minister.
The importance of the political component stressed the Deputy energy Minister of Poland Michael Kurtik.
“We want gas not used for political purposes. Recent arbitration decision in Stockholm is in the direction in which we act in Europe. It is the recognition that the gas ceases to be a political tool, and becomes what is should be – just fuel,” said Kurtik.
As for the economic part of the solution, should be carried out long calculations.
“We’re optimistic about the situation, but the political part I put above”, – said Igor Prokopiv.
We will remind, on may 31, the Stockholm arbitration court has announced a closed decision by mutual claims of “Gazprom” and “Naftogaza”. This decision was the first of several anticipated.
- The court overturned the onerous condition “take or pay”, according to which Ukraine had to pay 52 billion cubic meters of gas annually, regardless of the actual supply.
- The court fully lifted the ban of re-export of Russian gas.
- “Gazprom” to revise the formula for calculating the price, but with 2014 and not as required “Naftogaz of Ukraine” from 20 may 2011 to October 2015.
Russian media were quick to say that in this case, Gazprom will demand that Naftogaz payment for gas deliveries in 2013.
