President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for reform of the UN security Council, urging it to include in the group of 20 countries on a rotating basis and eliminating the division into permanent and temporary members, according to RIA Novosti.
“I urge the international community to unite and achieve UN reform so that the security Council was alternately submitted to all 193 countries in the UN. It is necessary to eliminate the division into permanent and temporary members of the UN security Council. It can be represented in 20 countries. Every two years should change in ten countries, then another ten. This must be done to change the fate of the world community”, – said Erdogan at a press conference in Tanzania’s capital Dar-es-Salaam during his tour of the countries of East Africa. It quoted the Anadolu news Agency.
Earlier, UN Secretary-General antónio Guterres, who took office on 1 January 2017, called on all employees to the reform of the United Nations. With this statement he appealed to the Secretariat staff in his first day of work.
“We should be able to respond to the hopes and aspirations of people around the world. This is not an easy task and let’s face it – we’re not quite ready to cope with it. Therefore, we need to make substantial changes in their work, to undertake reforms and improve results,” said UN Secretary-General.
He stressed that on the background of global trends such as population growth, climate change, it is clear that to address these global challenges at the national level is simply impossible.
