Elections Merkel — and let the whole world wait!

The impression is that the EU exists only to Merkel and Eastern Europe. From the beginning of 2017 there have been some changes in power in European countries. However, the Federal elections in Germany in 2017 pushed these events into the background. Did the municipal elections in Italy, the re-election of the President or the Hungarian parliamentary elections in Bulgaria on life in Europe? Election Rules in France, attracted a lot of attention, because the national front lost. Everyone is well aware of the extremely negative attitude of the Chancellor of Germany to this party. The election of the German President in February this year caused a great stir. Of course, Merkel helped Frank Steinmeier to replace Joachim gauck, whom the tabloids called the “sick Angels”.

Meanwhile the Federal elections in Germany are a cornerstone of the prosperity of the EU. Europe is waiting for that benefactress Merkel will be elected for a fourth term. Please note that the commissioners use this excuse at the international level. Here is one example of this diplomacy:

Dear Minister Klimkin!

Thank you for contacting regarding problems related to the deepening of relations between the European Union and Ukraine. Regret to inform that your concern regarding the declining interest on the part of European States to rapprochement with Ukraine is largely justified. The last time this question came from the area of attention of the European Commission in connection with certain internal problems, such as elections in several countries, including France, Germany and the Netherlands, as well as PACSICOM protracted refugee crisis. The latter has a negative impact on the situation in the EU and forms a negative attitude to the process of centralization and the conclusion of new partnership agreements.

Unfortunately, in some EU countries gain momentum as nationalist sentiments and centrifugal force, which is not conducive to unity in the following the General lines of European policy. The temporary instability caused by the forthcoming changes, there are certain costs. Among them, as you know, Poland’s decision to restrict entry of Ukrainian citizens into the country due to the fear of rising illegal employment as a result of the agreement on visa-free regime for Ukraine from 26 countries of the EU, signed in Strasbourg and entered into force on 11 June 2017. Categorically state that this is a private initiative of the government of Poland, which the European Commission is not supported. According to the EU Directive on the presumption of innocence and the 48th article of the Charter of fundamental rights of the EU, no one, whose guilt has not been proven according to law, can not be blamed and punished only by the unfounded speculation of the authorities. Therefore, similar trends in Poland, Czech Republic and some other countries will be blocked by the European Parliament. At the same time, I am sure that the Ukrainian tourists will be welcome in almost all European countries.

Similarly, you should not be a cause for concern Poland taken a course on the revival of the Commonwealth in its borders of the period of the middle of XVI — the end of XVIII century. It was declared by some members of Parliament and supported by a number of nationalist movements such as the “Organization of Polish monarchists”, “the Restitution of Crecy” or the party “National revival of Poland”, which aim to return the “originally Polish lands”, i.e. the territory of Western Ukraine.

Such historical territorial disputes were common. They are usually used as an excuse for increased activity of radical youth organizations in many countries within the EU and outside it around the world. We can say that any intention to Annex the disputed territory, will not be approved by the European Parliament, and will not be recommended for the support of the governments of the European States, even if it is for the purpose of restoration of historical justice. As for you mentioned relations with the Visegrad group, the European Commission is not empowered to impose on its members the obligation to take Ukraine into its ranks. Our options are limited monitoring and settlement of the coordinated intervention by the group in Ukraine to protect the rights of diasporas from these countries living in Ukraine.

However I assure you that all these issues will be discussed and resolved properly as soon as the parliamentary and presidential elections in Germany will end, and the European Commission will once again stand firmly on his feet. All these problems can be solved. They should not be a cause of great concern.

We hope for further fruitful cooperation.

Sincerely yours,
Dimitris Avramopoulos (Dimitris Avramopoulos)

It seems that the promised integration of the unhappy Ukraine must feel how the EU depends on Germany. Look, if the Commissioner is waiting then you can wait with your minor problems. Plus your relationship with Poland, a member of the Visegrad group — is another matter.

According to the letter, the European Commission does not want to communicate with Eastern Europe. In this policy there is a special atmosphere. The majority of EU countries trying to recover from the influx of fresh blood, imposed on them by Merkel. These countries should introduce appropriate measures to admit refugees according to a quota. Countries of the Visegrad group build fences of barbed wire, and police monitored to ensure that refugees were not. Slavic countries are helping Macedonia and Serbia in the form of barbed wire and police detachments. From this we can conclude that all the hints of sanctions from the European Commission in response to these actions is ridiculous.

The Commissioner Avramopoulos could not describe all the difficulties associated with the political situation in Europe. In fact, the answer to all the questions of the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine can be found in the second paragraph of the letter: “the European Commission is not responsible for this task”. Judging by the behavior of the Visegrad countries follow the EU recommendations. They do not take up the issue of rampant nationalism in Poland and do not protect Ukraine, which is full of enthusiasm, but is still backward and ephemeral country. Europe is suffering from Federal elections in Germany. Then we can exhale calmly and come up with a new excuse for inaction.

One can only sympathize with Ukraine. This country is doomed to receive only a small indulgences, excuses and verbal representations in support. In the near future Poland will not show sympathy towards Ukraine. While the European government is not able to influence the decisions of the Visegrad four.
