The SBU established the involvement of Russia to attack the virus Petya in Ukraine

Cyber attack on government, financial, energy, transport sectors and private enterprises of Ukraine with the help of the virus Petya.A was aimed at deliberate destabilization of political situation in Ukraine. This reports the press center of the security Service of Ukraine.

“According to the security Service of Ukraine, the infection was planned and implemented in advance. It happened in several stages and began on the eve of national public holiday. Despite the fact that a cyber attack similar to the normal virus type ransomeware (software for extorting money), created for the enrichment of criminals. In fact, the virus is the cover of a large-scale attack aimed at Ukraine”, – stated in the message.

As emphasized in SBU, evidenced by the absence of a real mechanism for the appropriation of funds, the primitiveness of which only confirms the view that the enrichment was not the target of the attack.

“It should be noted the originality and specificity of the scale vector of infection associated with the use of applied accounting software. According to SBU, in recent years it met only once during the cyber attacks from North Korea,” the message reads.

Thus, according to the SBU, the main purpose of the virus was the destruction of important data and disruption of public and private institutions of Ukraine to spread panic among the population.

“The available data, including those obtained in the framework of cooperation with international antivirus companies give reason to believe that the attacks involved the same hacker group that in December 2016, attacked the financial system, objects of transport and energy of Ukraine with the use of “TeleBots” and “Blackenergy”. This indicates involvement in the attack of the Russian special services”, – stressed in the Department.

The security service of Ukraine in cooperation with the National police, state service of special communication, partner law enforcement agencies, security companies and leading manufacturers of telecommunication software continues to implement measures aimed at localization of consequences of cyber attacks, said the Agency.

As you know, 27 Jun largest hacking attackthat spreads the virus Petya, was subjected to Ukrainian banks, energy companies, government Internet resources and local network of Ukrainian media and a number of other large enterprises.

The attacks began almost simultaneously at about 11:30. Virus that locks computer systems, spread very quickly. It manifests itself in the failure of computers on a Windows platform, your computer restarts and the virus encrypts all the data on it.

Later, the postal and telecommunications of Ukraine issued a number of tips, compliance with which will help you avoid getting infected with a dangerous virus.
