Russian special forces in southern Syria

The South of Syria has become a hot spot of high resistance in the framework of the liberation of the country from “Islamic state” (declared a terrorist organization and banned in Russia — approx. ed.). Here, on the border between Syria and Jordan, not far from Israel and the main Syrian-Iraqi border, the war rages not only between the army of Damascus and Islamic state, but also between Assad’s forces and rebels, particularly the Free Syrian army and its supporting international coalition.

USA have long campaigned for the application of strikes, even by the regular Syrian army, turning the war against the “Islamic state” in the real debriefing, which targeted all enemies of the international coalition, whether they are on the side of Damascus or to the side of the Islamists.

In this area it is quite obvious that the opposition is not limited to the Syrian army and the rebels, Western and Russian allies have tactical air support. In the conflict involved U.S. and British special forces, through a gap on the border between Syria and Jordan, once, finally, therefore, on Syrian territory. In particular, the territory for the deployment of British and us special forces, at least according to reports the Daily Express, was the region of al-TANF in the South-East of the province of HOMS, a few kilometers from the border between Jordan and Iraq.

This deployment has long been restrained by the security forces of Damascus who really began to move in the direction chosen in advance of the Western special forces. The Syrian army confronted on the positions rocket launchers and armored vehicles to continue to move British and American troops from frontline combat with the Free Syrian army.

However, it seems that the army of Bashar al-Assad is not the one involved in the attack in the desert on the rebel forces and their allies from the special forces of the UK and the USA. As mentioned in the story Al Masdar News, the Russian special forces also entered the territory of Syria.

According to reports, the Russian special forces arrived in the province of al-Sweida located above the line of the border between Syria and Jordan, not far from the main area, connecting Syria with Iraq. The arrival of special forces to help the Syrian army and training to confront the new threat, consisting of the rebel forces, which receive support and advice from British and American special forces.

However, in addition to assistance in logistics, there is also a very tactical purpose: the presence of Russian special forces will not allow the Pentagon to put its forces against the Russians, and did not encounter the escalation of the conflict between Russia and the United States, which would be very difficult to reach, without entering into the real clash. The Russian presence thus need a kind of shield for the Syrian security forces, to cover their backs from possible attacks of the international coalition and the Free Syrian army.

Many believe that sending special forces in the province of al-Sweida is actually a prelude to the help of the Russian army in the area that also includes the construction of a Russian military base. However, in the proof or, at least, in support of this hypothesis failed to find any data from official sources, since the assumption was voiced by only a few media outlets. Nevertheless, there was confidence that these weeks in the South of Syria has become a theater of war, where they speak not only in Syriac. British, American, Russian, Norwegian special forces and the armies of many Arab countries, already located in the region and turned the southern edge of Damascus in a real world conflict between the forces of the special forces, where everyone is relentlessly committed to support and to give an advantage to their side in the Syrian conflict.

On the border between Syria and Jordan still clearly possible to observe that the war with the “Islamic state” is just a pretext: a clash going on between those who would control Syria after the war or, at least, the triumph will sit down at the negotiating table.
