Poroshenko asked Merkel the fate of sanctions against Russia

President Petro Poroshenko told about the results of negotiations with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

As reported in the press service of the head of state said that during lengthy negotiations covered the whole range of issues, starting with security issues and support Germany and the European Union the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine.

Poroshenko also thanked Germany for its role in the issue of granting Ukrainians visa-free regime. The President of Ukraine and Chancellor of Germany coordinated actions to ensure and accelerate the ratification of the Association Agreement.

According to him, considerable time during the talks was devoted to coordinated action for the implementation of the Minsk agreements. “It is stated that Russia does not fulfill the Minsk agreements and we need to make a script that would motivate Russia to sit at the negotiating table and to do what she promised,” he said. First of all, it concerns the component in terms of safety – the cessation of artillery, mortar and tank fire, withdrawal of heavy weaponry, the release of hostages and to ensure the effective implementation of the peace process, he said.

“The world must be brought to the Ukrainian land. The occupation must end. We have firm and consistent support of Germany in this matter. In addition, we have agreed that if the Minsk agreements are not adhered to, then with high probability European Union sanctions will continue,” – said the President.
