Russia does not need the EU’s relations with Moldova – EU representative

The European Commission does not see any reasons why Russia should be involved in discussions on the Association agreement EU-Moldova. This was stated in Brussels by the representative of one of the institutions of the European Union.

“The Association agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova, including the agreement on deep and comprehensive free trade area, entered into force and is implemented with positive results for both parties”, – said the representative of the EU.

“The implementation of these agreements is a bilateral issue between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova. The European Commission sees no point in joining the tripartite negotiations”, – said the representative of the EU asked to comment on the proposal of the President of Moldova Igor Dodon to hold trilateral talks with Russia that his country could renew a strategic partnership with Moscow, while maintaining good relations with Brussels.

Recall, the Prime Minister of Moldova, Paul Philip stated that Moldova consistently will promote efforts aimed at the unconditional withdrawal of Russian troops and armaments from the territory of the Transnistrian region.

Earlier, the President of Moldova Igor Dodon has declared that he wants Moldova was a country without any foreign troops, including Russian.

The ruling Democratic party of Moldova criticized the statements of the President Igor Dodon, made on Tuesday in Brussels after meetings with EU and NATO.
