On January 29 Ukraine has traditionally honor the memory of heroes of Kruty, which in an unequal battle with the Russian-Bolshevik invaders gave their lives for an independent and democratic Ukraine. It was one of the first battles against the newly-appeared first in the world to a totalitarian regime that led Ukrainians — not by name, but in spirit, because among the dead men with the names obviously not Ukrainian roots, as well as among the attacking red troops, there were many characters with names in “-Ko” or “-Chuk”.
For the first time in one hundred and fifty years Dnipro region with weapons in hand, ready to die, were going to defend Ukrainian independence. It was necessary to prove that the Ukrainians — it’s not just self recent the Ukrainians and the Russians, but something more. And to prove it was impossible, hostile and without spilling their blood.
In his memoirs, Yuri Tutunik, one of the active members of the Ukrainian revolution, Lieutenant of the tsarist army who became a General-cornet of the UPR Army, telling the soldiers ‘ meeting in the spring of 1917, wrote:
“Arrived about seven thousand. Opening the chamber, I suggested: who between you, the Ukrainians, put your hands up! Rose not more than three hundred hands. The Russians! Hold hands! Raised his hands circle half of those present. The Ukrainians! Raise your hands! Again raised his hands a good third. Ukrainians, Russians and Ukrainians! All together raise your hands! Over the heads of the crowd of thousands rose a forest of hands”.
However, as subsequent events showed, the “forest of hands” of people in soldiers ‘ uniforms do not automatically turned into a battle-ready army. It has affected and pacifist illusions of the leaders of the newly formed UPR, and their inability to be effective leaders, and the lack of a common language between professional politicians and military personnel, and the General mood of the type “my business”, and the powerful Bolshevik propaganda. In these circumstances, someone had to be first and prove that a free Ukraine is worth it to fight for her to the last. Later in the war for freedom has raised more than hundreds of Ukrainian volunteers — and thousands and tens of thousands. But at that moment it turned out that to defend Kiev is almost no one…
Well, those who fought and died in those days, provided, in the end, the very appearance of the concept of “Ukraine” in world politics — concepts, which then no one could erase from the political scenario, no matter how trying. However, paying tribute to the heroes of Kruty, should not forget lessons Cool. In fact, the assimilation of these lessons should be the biggest sign of respect to the fallen heroes.
Remember that not so long ago, in the days of Yushchenko, in honor of the heroes of Kruty said a lot of good words and were lush ceremonies. However, the army only reduced and reduced, and in parallel ruthlessly destroyed the stockpiles of “junk” weapons, from tactical missiles “Scud” (which thanks to the upgrade cost can be turned into tactical, that reach) until it is more suitable for fighting Kalashnikov rifles and bullets of all calibers. And the head of state, he is the Supreme commander, the last year of his presidency, it seems, was more concerned about the introduction of the “national front step”…
One of the main lessons Cool is the awareness of the need to have a professional, well-trained and armed, high morale army. Because in any young state, in particular, in order to protect this state from trying the former metropolis to return it to colonial or neo-colonial transfer in the state. However, not enough to ever realize that — you should turn this awareness into reality. In recent years in terms of building such an army done. But… During recent fierce fighting with Russian invaders and their puppets in the Donbas suddenly it became clear that neither the removal of the wounded and dead from the battlefield now somehow again, at the level of the summer of 2014, no supply of ammunition is not adjusted as it should… as you can step on the same rake? It seems that without the military tribunals that will be able to consider all cases of malicious or foolish actions of any war to the generals and admirals, inclusive, a real army with well established supply of small arms, military equipment and ammunition and a real military industry will not build…
The professionalism of power is one of the lessons of the past, which, it seems, can not grasp the modern Ukrainian leaders. Responsible, democratic, but at the same time strong and effective government was never created during the Ukrainian revolution. Such power is needed now. And control the power needs of civil society and the media. It is very important that all managers were, as they say, in their places, meet the skill level and mentality of your posts. After all, who sent students to protect Steep? The Minister of war of the UPR, a staunch pacifist and antimilitarist Mykola porsh, who managed in the context of Bolshevik aggression to disband the regular Ukrainian units and to dismiss military generals on suspicion of “Bonapartism”. However, at the same time, Porsche has established himself as a genius, without exaggeration, the organizer of the Ukrainian cooperative movement that existed for a long time after the fall of the UNR, and the Bolsheviks subsequently there was this movement in the economic life to be replaced. Just a man put in his place. All the Ministers and other managers of high rank are now in their seats? Another Cool lesson. To effectively fight the aggressor, especially in the “hybrid war” (and the Bolshevik war against UNR in 1917-18 and was the first “hybrid war”, which was developed and tested all major elements of the future such wars) need national unity. During the UPR, the question was somewhat different: it was about the certainty of the nation, of whether there are Ukrainians and whether they represent the majority of the population of the former Ukraine. Now the situation is fundamentally different, to date the Ukrainian nation has repeatedly confirmed by its actions — particularly in past years — a fact of its own existence. Now we should talk about the substantive content of the notion “Ukrainian” and about the ability of tens of millions of people to prove their love to their country. This applies both to the “bottom” and “top”; the latter had, finally, to understand what it means in practice the expression “to love the Homeland to the depths of my own pocket”…
