The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko during a telephone conversation congratulated Antonio Tajani on his election as President of the European Parliament and discussed prospects for further bilateral relations. About it reports a press-service of the head of state.

In particular, according to the report, Poroshenko expressed hope for the continued strong support of Ukraine by the European Parliament on the issue of restoration of territorial integrity and deepen relations with the EU.

The leaders also discussed the prospects for the completion of the European Union procedures for the introduction of a visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens, as well as the entry into force of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

Along with this, Poroshenko urged the European Parliament to support the proposal of the European Commission on granting Ukraine Autonomous trade preferences with the aim of promoting further diversification of Ukrainian exports under economic pressure from the Russian Federation.

Poroshenko also thanked the European Parliament for the observance of the policy of non-recognition of Russia’s annexation of Crimea and requested to actively oppose repression and human rights violations by Russia against Ukrainian citizens, including Crimean Tatars, as well as to facilitate the release of all illegally detained on the territory of the Russian Federation hostages.
