The international athletics Federation is ready to debate on the abolition of world records

The IAAF said it is ready to discuss the proposal of the International sports press Association (AIPS).

The organization has proposed to cancel the existing world records in athletics. In an open letter to the President of the IAAF Sebastian CoE, the head of the AIPS Gianni Merlo argues that the recent increase in cases of doping, and offers to reset all the achievements, starting, thus, a “new era in athletics”.

“As for your proposal to cancel world records in athletics, we understand your outrage. We understand that the system that existed in the past, could prevent the achievement of records illegally.

We welcome discussion, but we have to be careful. Our priority always are clean athletes who have set world records legally. If the world record list will be cancelled, then clean athletes at risk of losing their place in history, and will also have involvement in the fact that their records are not clean,” – said in response to the IAAF.
