Makogon told how “the Turkish stream” can “kill” the transit of gas through Ukraine

The launch of the second branch of the gas pipeline is fraught for Ukraine significant losses

Starting in 2021, the second branch of the “Turkish stream” may lead to drop in transit through the Ukrainian gas transportation systemfor an additional 15 billion cubic meters of gas. This was stated by General Director of state company “the operator of the gas transportation system of Ukraine” Sergey Makogon, UNIAN reports.

“If next year will be built and launched the second branch of the “Turkish stream” that will probably be lost, a further 15 billion transit because Hungary will also be able to go to receive gas through the “Turkish stream,” said Makogon.

He also said that the fall of gas transit through Ukraine in the first half of 2020 by 45% compared to the same period last year is due to the launch of the “Turkish stream” this year.

Stop the “Turkish stream” has increased gas transit through Ukraine

“During these six months we transported 45% less gas than in 2019. We attribute this decline in transit with the launch of the “Turkish stream”, through which Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey and Romania started to receive gas from Russia. So about 15 billion cubic meters of gas transit was lost due to the construction of “Turkish stream,” he said.
