The President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite said that the deployment of NATO troops in the Baltic States sends “a clear signal” that military Alliance remains “strong and United”. She stated on 7 February, during a reception ceremony of the German battalion in the Lithuanian city Rukla, reports UNN.

“The deployment of troops is a strengthening of the deterrence strategy of the NATO, given the current buildup of troops along our borders, and aggressive actions in our region”, – said Grybauskaite.

German battalion in Lithuania, will lead a contingent that includes soldiers from Belgium, the Netherlands and France. This spring, it needs to consist of 1200 troops.

As reported, the first group of German and Belgian military arrived on Tuesday, 24 January, to Lithuania in the framework of the mission to strengthen the Eastern flank of NATO.

We will remind, on the Yavoriv training ground in Lviv region military instructors arrived from the US, Canada, UK, Denmark, Lithuania and Poland. During the year there will conduct exercises on the range for the four units of the APU, and more than 1200 soldiers and officers with combat experience.
