The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko during a working visit to Strasbourg met with the President of the European people’s party (EPP) Joseph Doyle and Chairman of the political group of the EPP in the European Parliament Manfred Weber. The parties exchanged opinions on further steps to implement the European agenda of Ukraine, in particular, expressed a General expectation for completion of the ratification process of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
“The EPP leadership has assured that Ukraine will continue to feel the full support of the influential European party in the reform and restoration of territorial integrity, including the sanctions component,” the statement reads.
Poroshenko informed the President of the EPP on the implementation of Minsk agreements and continuation of Russian aggression. The parties condemned the shelling of the Town, in which killed four civilians.
The President also noted that the may 18 celebration of the 73rd anniversary of the deportation of Crimean Tatars is a painful reminder of the current human rights violations on the Peninsula and called for support to Ukraine’s efforts for de-occupation of Crimea.
