Local authorities in Ukraine will receive expanded powers to set tariffs for heating, water supply and sanitation in the framework of the decentralization reform. This was stated by the head of the National Commission, carrying out state regulation in spheres of power and utilities (NKREKU), Dmitry Vovk.
As informs a press-service of the national Commission, decisions will be taken later this month. 74% of the heatsupplying organizations and 67% of water utilities will be able to move under the full control of local authorities by increasing their powers regarding licensing for the production of thermal energy in the volume of production — up to 170 thousand Gcal, and the transportation and supply of thermal energy — up to 145 thousand Gcal.
Rates in these areas that will offer the city will be approved even not by the regulator but directly their mayors.
The initiative to transfer control over the rates in place were supported by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, and called as soon as possible to make this decision.
We will remind, yesterday the Verkhovna Rada has allowed local authorities to set tariffs for alternative energy.
