NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov met with Secretary of state for defence of great Britain Michael Fallon and explained to him that failure to provide lethal weapons to Ukraine could affect European security, the press service of the NSDC.
Vol the meeting Turchynov and Fallon discussed the situation in Donbas, as well as the reform of the Ukrainian defense according to NATO standards.
According to Turchynov, the blocking of the supply of lethal weapons in Ukraine or technologies for their production “we believe a strategic mistake.”
“Because of the Ukrainian defense potential depends on the security of Europe. Britain has always supported our country for which we are grateful, but we believe that the time has come when our cooperation must rise to a higher level”, – said Turchinov.
In addition, the NSDC Secretary has called for a more tough stance in countering international terrorism and military aggression.
In turn, the defense Minister of Britain said that Britain is interested in increasing aid to Ukraine.
“We hope to consistently increase aid and to increase the level of military-technical cooperation,” – said Fallon.
Fallon also assured that the UK’s position on the sanctions pressure on the state-aggressor remains unchanged.
“Sanctions against Russia are necessary for full implementation of the Minsk agreements. The conflict in Ukraine remains in a zone of our attention, and the UK will continue to support your country on its democratic path,” added the British official.
